First verse and chorus: anyone want to finish it?
I met her first in a chat room, then on a message board
My heart would pound with each textual smile, each witty retort that she scored.
I didn't care if she was really a guy, or too skinny, too tall, or too fat.
It took me days to summon the courage to ask for a private chat.
I told myself sternly if I was honest with her, could she then be any less?
It seems I was right, for she said to my screen all that she had to confess.
I emptied my heart, knowing the risk of acknowledging just what you feel.
Here's the good news: she loved me too.  The bad news: she wasn't real.

     Chorus:

I've fallen in love with a fictal, whatever am I to do?
The girl of my dreams is not what she seems, but our love is pure and true.
The girl's just a fictal created of pictals by an author, I do not know who.
I've fallen in love with a fictal, I wish I were a fictal too.

Turkey
Thanks to the mother of one my Tellurian friends,  Mad Gastronomer, and Alton Brown, I just outdid myself making a turkey.  I stuff it with cut up lemons, limes, a quartered onion, and a bulb of garlic separated into cloves.  Oil, salt, and pepper, then roasted it at high temperature for half an hour, covered it, and roasted it at medium temperature for a few hours more.  It came out great; some of the moistest turkey I've ever had.  Now using the stuffing, the bones, and the gibblets to make a soup base.

Wow. This guy is AMAZING.
Dealing with a medium set of bumps and bruises from a fight yesterday (a friendly disagreement, nothing to be upset about, and I got a couple of decent shots in), so I didn't plan on doing much but soaking in the hot tub and listening to music and maybe watching some vids or Tellurian TV.

What actually happened was, after some m2i/google time, starting with "dancers" I found this and then this.

Wow. Wow. Wow.

I am beat
Tired. Exhausted. Wiped out. Ugh. Frustrating day today. "Did you see anyone...?" "Have you been noticing..." "Did you happen to be near...?" No. No. No. No.

Bleh.

Going to check friends pages, see if anything's happening with the forum, then fall over. No, actually, I've already fallen over. I'm going to bark the light off and sleep. Maybe in that order.

Reading, visiting sick friend
I've been spending a lot of time with a friend who passes in and out of consciousness a lot (which isn't as bad as it sounds--the drugs make him sleep a great deal), and so I've been doing a lot of reading. Got caught up on Beski and Dunn's latest historicals, including Beneath the Cave and The Kishtarna Collective. They're tons of fun, and I wonder what it would take to have their work translated into English; maybe I'll ask someone about it.

I haven't felt much like dancing lately, which is a sign I need to do more before my muscles atrophy. I dug around and found my percussive poi (actually, I forced my chrony, Charl, to give them back) and played with them a bit until I realized I was scratching up the floor. The good news is my hands seem to be fine; holding the poi didn't hurt at all. Thanks to Doc Sing for the cream. Today I plan to pick up some surfacing to put on my floor, and maybe I'll actually do a whole mediator shift instead of the on and off stuff I've been doing lately.

Speaking of working, apparently I've been doing more shifts than I thought; I had an embarrassing number of labor-hours built up, so I gave most of them to Clabs before people notice and start giving me funny looks.

Right now, I'm going to see if I this shrimp soup idea I have in my head tastes as good as I imagine it, then go read forums and blog, then out to do errands.

Feeling better
Had an unpleasant experience at work the other day. My friend Cole is starting the process of skin grafts and cosmetic surgery. I'm doing well except for a few blisters, mostly on my hands; but its amazing how much I can get done without using my hands at all. I love technology. I'll probably spend today painting my windows and resting, since the docs seem to believe extra rest is the cure for any and all ailments that don't require surgery. Besides, I've been neglecting things at home, so it's about time I got all my ducks in a queue, as you say. I think in a day or two I'll be fully recovered.

What a night!
I was up all night working with Livie to resolve one of those classic disputes.  A pair of moon-mates who couldn't agree about their pets or their drugs.  Of course, as usual, neither of those was the problem, and of course the solution required dealing with both of those issues.  Livie and I spent the night swapping trading which of us was talking to which of them until we could finally get them to actually listen to each other.  I'm exhausted and going to get some sleep.  Maybe next shift I'll run into something simpler, like thirty drunks wanting to race to the top of a lightning tower.

War For the Oaks by Emma Bull
The first novel by one of the producers of Shadow Unit, it's an outstanding story about music and battles with Faerie.  I'm no reviewer, so I'll just say that, notwithstanding all the ruckus kicked up in Port Outreach by the Zayza translation, and in spite of a lot of cultural references that either don't translate or I didn't understand, it's a really nifty read.

Last night
Went to Sandytown with some doctors and Mam Lix and Xan to offer vaccinations against a strain of an old ailment that's been going around.  It went well, mostly thanks to the fact that Mam Lix can talk to anyone--she is a living situation defuser.  But it still left me exhausted.  No one lives in Sandytown who doesn't want to, and we leave them alone as much as possible, but the sheer force of all that disapproval, not to mention threatened violence and one thrown rock, has left me a bit glum and low on energy today.  Things I'm learning about how things are done on Tellus are shaking me up more than they ought to, which is probably a sign I'm not in top form.

I need to treat myself to something pleasant.  I'm thinking of hooking up the big monitor, getting a bottle of good wine, and doing a Shadow Unit marathon.  Maybe I'll take a break to read--we're getting more and more translations of Tellurian fiction, and some of them come highly recommended.  After full dark I'll go find a spot on the beach where no one is around and dance myself to exhaustion.  By the tomorrow, I'll be feeling fine.

Inversion Effect at Lufton Runner
Last night, Inversion Effect played at the Luf. Wow. Those of you who were there don't need to hear anything about it, and for the rest of you, I just wish you'd been there. I was smart enough to spend a good long time stretching and warming up before the show, because I think I must have danced for six hours. I was on, too--at one point (can't say when, because thanks to TDL my time-sense wasn't functioning right) Crimfish pulled me up onto the side of the stage, which gave me more room. I think there might have been a spotlight on me for a bit, but that could have been an effect of the hallucinogens.

I am exhausted, wiped out, and still glowing.

If anyone wants to hear some of the music, you can find it here.

Thanks Inversion Effect, and Lufton Collective. I can't wait for the next one.

Tellurian humor epiphany!
I've figured out what's funny on Tellus! So much more makes sense now.

Thanks a lot you guys. Fuh.
I just tried to watch the Tellurian TV show 24.  Now that my Tellurian friends have convinced me it isn't supposed to be a comedy, I can't even watch it.  You guys suck, as you say.

But on the other arm, it does give me more free time.  Hey, maybe I'll read a book.

I broke my emkay and I am proud
Hee hee.  Finally bumped into the limits of the translation software on my emkay.  I was wandering around Harborside, successfully avoiding temptation to stop in the Cups, and was composing a post on percussion, including details of rhythms.   Well, somewhere between vocal Zayza and printed Americanish, it sunk.  I had to reset the emkay.  I feel pretty smug about the whole thing.  I dropped a note to C-Labs, and for my next experiment I'll wait until I get back home and haul out my old keyboard and see if typed Zayza works any better.

A bit sore today
Last night, on the way to the Frayed Knot, I ran into a nagara with strong opinions on post-Equalist art.  Strong opinions, and no knowledge.  The discussion became heated.  Today, I'm heading to Dream River to get a long soak and a good rub-down.  I took yesterday off, and depending on how I feel after a couple hours of comfort, I might take today off too.

This is FUN
I'm having my brain broken every hour, learning new things about Tellus, and, even more, un-learning what I thought I knew.  I love this!  My thanks to everyone who has been so patient with my questions, and especially to the C-Labs folks for making this possible.

Twin Cables
The sweet, charming, adorable, precious children of Twin Cables, my vicinage, have now decided to reroute the #18 'bus so it goes from the waterpark to Painters Hall and doesn't go anywhere near where you can pick up a #6 to Harborside.  I'm thinking of moving to the Wrecks.
